Google Maps Street View
Thanks to everyone who voted for the Centennial Trail to be on Google Maps Street View. This is so exciting! The votes are being tallied, so we are now awaiting the final decision. Stay tuned!
National Recreation Trails designation
We have applied for a National Recreation Trails designation! This would recognize the Centennial Trail as an exemplary and significant trail in our country and would bring an array of benefits. It would create a new visibility for the Spokane Centennial Trail on a national level, and promote Spokane as an attractive destination for visitors and potential new residents.
This honor has been received by only 1,053 trails nationally with eight in western Washington. The Spokane Centennial Trail would be the first with national designation in eastern Washington, and is a perfect candidate with its 37 miles of natural beauty along the historic Spokane River.
The decision concerning the designation will be announced on Trails Day in June 2010.
RSP Trail Repairs - We were able to get a start!
Friends of the Centennial Trail received a grant from Avista. With these funds we were able to fix sixteen cracks that were causing angst to riders by Military Cemetery. Repairs start at the base of the hill west of Military Cemetery. We hope the crack that caused you the most issues was fixed.
Detour on the Centennial Trail - Barker Bridge
Barker Bridge is closed. It is being rebuilt and there is a detour in place. The estimated opening date is summer of 2010.
Barker Road - Department of Ecology
The Department of Ecology had plans to place a fence around an area by the Barker Bridge. This is to block access to a contaminated area. However, to answer public comments this project has been delayed and they will readdress the placement of the fence in 2010, no exact date known yet.
