AT&T will be replacing a vault on the Trail Tuesday July 27th - Friday July 30th 2010

AT&T will be replacing a vault on the Trail approx 2300' east of Maringo Dr. The Trail will not be closed. AT&T will fence and cone off an area for users to safely pass the work area. There will be sign placements in both directions to advise of the work ahead.

The Appleway (old 1/90 bridge) bridge at the State Line closed June 2010 for a two year replacement project

According to Spokane County, the Appleway Bridge will be replaced due to its deteriorating conditon. The Centennial Trail will be rerouted under the new bridge and be closer to the river, swinging back into the existing trail close to the new weigh station location. The Bridge will also have two 12' lanes with four shoulders and a separated 10' wide shared use path that will connect to the Centennial Trail. The Centennial Trail from Idaho to Gateway Park will remain open.  Access to the Spokane River From the Centennial Trail in the project area will be restricted.

The Centennial Trail under Barker Bridge reopened 7-1-2010. 

National Trails Designation: The Spokane Centennial Trail has been honored by receiving a National Recreation Trail designation.

On May 24, 2010 Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced the designation of 31 trails in 15 states as national recreation trails. The Spokane Centennial Trail was one of the designees. Washington State Parks Recreation Commission and The Friends of the Centennial Trail have been sent certificates signed by the Secretary of the Interior. The CT will be included in the online searchable database of trails on the American Trails website. This designation will enhance the ability to receive updates on funding resources and technical assistance opportunities. RSP Trail Repairs - We filled more cracks this year at Riverside State Park - Thanks to a grant from Avista

Friends of the Centennial Trail continue their work with the assistance of an annual maintenance grant from Avista to fill the cracks by the Military Cemetary in Riverside State Park. With these funds we were able to fix another sixteen cracks that were causing angst to riders by Military Cemetery.  We hope the crack that caused you the most issues was fixed. 

 

 

Washington State Department of Transportation relocates weigh station

 

The Eastern Region of the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has contracted the construction of the project that relocates the Interstate 90 Port of Entry Weigh Station from its existing location at the Washington/Idaho border to a site less than one mile to the west. Construction is expected to begin April 19. Once the new weigh station is built and in operation, the existing station will be removed. The construction site will be fenced, and activities will not interfere with the use of the Centennial Trail.
